Environment

1. What steps were taken to make sure that the environment was protected during the Muskoka 2010 G-8 Summit?
The Muskoka environment is in excellent condition because of the stewardship of community members, businesses and organizations. We developed strategies to address the environmental implications of hosting the Summit in Muskoka. The Government of Canada ensured that the Summit was as “green” as possible.

2. What kind of carbon footprint did the Summit leave on the Muskoka region?
We drafted a strategy to measure the emissions expected to result from the Muskoka 2010 G-8 Summit. We explored options to address emissions concerns in an environmentally responsible manner.

Ex Gratia Payments

Will local businesses be compensated for any loss of income related to the event?
The Payments on an Ex Gratia Basis Program addresses situations where the Government of Canada may consider making payments to commercial businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals to mitigate adverse financial consequences as a result of extraordinary security measures implemented at designated meetings hosted by Canada as part of its international obligations. A toll-free phone line, 1-877-750-6042, has also been set up to handle compensation-related inquiries.

1. Was the firm that developed the logo selected through a competitive process?
Yes, the company that was selected to design the logo, Kaboom Communication Design, was the successful bidder among three who submitted proposals. The contract complies with Government of Canada policies and guidelines.

2. Who can use the logo?
The federal Crown owns the Muskoka 2010 G-8 Summit logo and controls its use. As a general principle, the members of the Summits Management Office shall use the Muskoka 2010 G-8 Summit logo to promote the Summit. The logo shall be used in a non-commercial manner befitting the status and goals of this summit. Any commercial or non-commercial party may request, in writing, permission to use the logo by emailing the Summits Management Office at G82010@international.gc.ca or by calling our toll-free number: 1-888-G8CAN-10 (1-888-482-2610).

3. Can I use the logo on T-shirts or coffee mugs I want to sell?
The logo may not be used for such commercial purposes without the prior permission of the Summits Management Office. Please consult the Guidelines for granting the right to use the Muskoka 2010 G-8 Summit logo. Note: The guidelines are provided in an Acrobat (pdf) file.To view or download pdf files, you need Adobe® Acrobat® Reader™, a free software that you can download from the Web.

4. Do I have to pay fees to use this logo?
Any commercial or non-commercial party may request, in writing, permission to use the logo by emailing the Summits Management Office at G82010@international.gc.ca or by calling our toll-free number: 1-888-G8CAN-10 (1-888-482-2610).

5. Is the logo a reproduction of an image by Canada’s Group of Seven artists?
The logo, a windswept tree firmly rooted in bedrock, is a unique design. It is inspired by Muskoka landscapes, but it does not reproduce any of the paintings made by Canada’s iconic Group of Seven artists.

6. Is this an official mark of Canada?
The logo is an official mark of Canada, meaning that it cannot be used by anyone else without the permission of the Crown, which is represented by the Summits Management Office in this case.

Muskoka Residents

1. Will my local tax bill go up?
Your local tax bill is not related to costs associated with the Summit.

2. Are there any local economic benefits from hosting the G-8?
Canada’s past experience in hosting the G-8 Summit has shown that there are substantial short-term economic benefits for the local community and surrounding region. Longer-term benefits for the region’s tourism sector can also be expected, stemming in part from foreign media coverage of the Summit.
