MY SUMMIT 2010
The official international G-8 youth summit
About MY SUMMIT 2010
MY SUMMIT 2010 is the official international youth summit that was held alongside the G-8 and the G-20 summits. Canada co-hosted MY SUMMIT 2010 with Global Vision, a not-for profit organization with expertise in youth leadership training.
The G-8 component of MY SUMMIT 2010 took place in Muskoka, Ontario, from June 23 to 25. Youth delegates discussed, debated and negotiated the same themes that were considered at the G-8 Leaders’ Summit. The debates culminated in the development of a final communiqué that was presented to leaders at the G-8 Summit.
The youth delegates from G-8 countries then travelled to Toronto for the G-20 segment of the summit that was held from June 26 to 27.

Delegate Selection
In Canada
MY SUMMIT 2010 was preceded by a series of preparatory events across Canada, including:
Global Leaders Centres
Global Vision organized several Global Leaders Centres (GLCs) that provided a forum for youth (ages 16-24) to interact with government, business and industry leaders in a series of one-day sessions held across Canada. The GLCs engaged youth and provided learning opportunities regarding summit issues and processes.
For more information on the GLCs and the recruitment process, visit the Global Vision website.
National Youth Caucus
The National Youth Caucus brought together 100 youth selected by Global Vision from the GLCs across the country. The Caucus, which took place in Ottawa from May 15 to 19, further explored summit-related issues. Participants also learned how to engage in multilateral negotiations.
Youth (ages 18-24) attending the National Youth Caucus had the opportunity to apply to be part of the Canadian delegation to MY SUMMIT 2010. Global Vision then ran a selection process with a view to developing a 13-person delegation to represent each province and territory. The 13 youth chosen to be part of the official Canadian delegation started to prepare for MY SUMMIT 2010 immediately following the National Youth Caucus.
The National Youth Caucus was also used as a forum to select 13 Canadian high school students (ages 16-18) to be youth ambassadors representing each province and territory. They worked with 10 youth ambassadors from the Muskoka region and surrounding area and acted as hosts and liaison officers for MY SUMMIT 2010.

Internationally
The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, invited his G-8 counterparts to send youth delegations to MY SUMMIT 2010. Each delegation was composed of seven university students (ages 18-24) with an active interest in international politics and the global economy.
Global Vision worked with youth organizations and academic institutions in the G-8 countries to recruit university-level international youth delegates.
Canada assumed the costs of accommodation and food, as well as in-country transportation, for all youth delegates for the duration of MY SUMMIT 2010. Transportation to and from Canada, as well as incidental expenses, was the responsibility of the delegate and/or their country of origin.

Bring the Beat
The region has rich talent to offer, as demonstrated in auditions held from February 12 to 13. Local musical talent from Muskoka and the surrounding area performed at the closing ceremony of the G-8 component of MY SUMMIT 2010. The event took place on the evening of June 25 in Huntsville, Ontario.
